Record structure
One row represents one trait observation. Values retain their reported units; this website does not convert units or infer missing observations.
| Field | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| id | Unique record identifier | Yes |
| species | Reported scientific name | Yes |
| site | Observation site name | Yes |
| trait | Measured trait name | Yes |
| value | Reported trait value (zero is valid) | Yes |
| unit | Measurement unit; use a clear label for unitless traits | Yes |
| latitude | WGS84 latitude, −90 to 90 | No |
| longitude | WGS84 longitude, −180 to 180 | No |
| source | Publication, DOI or original data source | Yes |
Coverage and quality
The map summarizes the observations included in the current published database. Locations are grouped by their recorded latitude and longitude without averaging coordinates. Species and trait-type counts are calculated from non-empty values and describe database coverage rather than the number of independent samples. These figures may change as records are reviewed, added or updated.
Sources and use
Each observation retains its associated source information. Before reusing data, consult the original source for attribution and any applicable conditions, and contact the C-EBF-Trait team to request access to restricted records. A recommended database citation and database-wide licence will be displayed here when formally established.
